Day 43: Sending Mom home, then New Orleans to Panama City

Mom wanted a normal breakfast on her last morning in New Orleans so we went to a greasy spoon diner near the hotel called The Please-U Restaurant. Then, reluctantly, we went to the airport and I dropped her off.

The diner was on St. Charles Ave which is on the Mardi Gras parade route. You can tell because of all the beads in the trees.

Once Mom was safely on her way I hit the road towards Florida. I stopped in Biloxi to see what it was like. This house was being leveled right by the main road.

The beach looked very inviting but alas no time for sandy feet.

There were several brand new casinos in what looked like the central part of the waterfront.

I stopped in the Hard Rock casino and saw some of the memorabilia, including this drag-tastic Elton John outfit. Unfortunately that is not a light up crotch but just a reflection on the glass from a light fixture behind me. I also managed to leave the casino $60 richer, something that I did not manage to do in New Orleans. It started to get dark right about when I reached Destin, FL which from what I could see looked like a really beautiful beach. I'm sad I didn't get to check it out. I ended up in Panama City Beach pretty late at night and for some reason Expedia never sent my reservation to the hotel so I had to put up with some BS before I got my room but I ended up with an upgrade to a room with a Jacuzzi. So that was nice.

Next: Panama and on to Sarasota
