Day 39: Garden District Tour, Clancy's and Bourbon Street

We were not good at getting an early start this morning (which would have been helpful in trying to avoid the heat) but temperature be damned we took an afternoon walking tour of the Garden District. I think the heat discouraged me from wanting to take photos because I have very few pictures of the fancy mansions.

I did, however, get a photo of this particularly picturesque garage.

We stopped mid-tour at the Magazine Street Po-Boy shop and had our favorite Po-Boy of the trip. I liked this bit of sign modification I saw outside the shop.

We ended the tour at the Lafayette Cemetery. We were a little too hot to spend a long time there. Notice the pink faces? We had a bit of time to kill before dinner so we went to Audubon Park and walked as far as we could stand it (not very far). I had planned to get dinner in the same neighborhood but we ended up having to go back to the hotel beforehand because we didn't fit the dress code for Clancy's.

We heard about the place for our waiter at dinner the night before. It is many local's favorite fancy spot. I had the smoked deep fried soft shell crab. With more crab meat piled on top. It was worth the change of attire.

After dinner Mom and I were both tempted to just turn in for the night but we felt silly staying in on a Friday night in New Orleans. So we dragged ourselves out of the comfortable hotel room and went to a bar on Decatur with slurpee machine daiquiris. We people watched outside Cafe Du Monde for a bit and then went to check out Bourbon Street. That place was crazy! It was like 6th street in Austin but with even more reckless abandon and misbehavior. It was not our kind of scene so we stumbled around the quarter some more before finishing up the evening with some late night beignets.
